The Rütihof commercial building in Wädenswil is a prime example of multifunctional industrial construction in Switzerland. Four floors, three uses: a bus depot for over 60 large vehicles, a modern logistics hall with automated pallet handling, and an indoor climbing center with event catering.
For the general contractor and project lead, Methabau, the focus was on fast construction, slender structural elements, and flexible collaboration among all stakeholders. The entire planning process was efficiently executed in BIM 3D using Tekla and later honored with a BIM Award.
Peikko delivered a wide range of high-performance components in record time: around 50 slender ATLANT® Composite Columns, up to 7 meters long and weighing up to 1.5 tons each, provide maximum load-bearing capacity with minimal cross-section. These were complemented by 90 DELTABEAM® Composite Beams with spans of up to 17 meters and a total length of 970 meters. The largest beams (types D70-800 and D70-900) allow for level changes in the slab structure thanks to special Gerber joints and bearing details. Load transfer is handled via the MODIX® Coupler System integrated into shear walls.
The slab system combines solid slabs and hollow-core slabs with high edge formwork for large slab offsets. High-quality on-site coating of the components completes the overall picture. Special challenges arose from the large spans in the basement, where over 16 meters were bridged to create a spacious parking garage for buses and trucks.
The Rütihof commercial building demonstrates how innovative Peikko solutions—especially slender composite columns and powerful DELTABEAM® Composite Beams—enable the realization of multifunctional, flexible, and cost-efficient industrial buildings. Close collaboration among all project partners and consistent use of digital planning tools were key to the project’s success.
